Alaska Reid is sharing her A. G. Cook co-produced debut album Disenchanter on July 14 via Luminelle Recordings. She's already shared the lead single "Back to This," and now we get the follow-up "She Wonders." The new single features pearlescent vocals juxtaposed against crunchy guitars and nostalgic synths as she contemplates how draining touring can be. “Personalities of touring artists are like nesting dolls,” Reid shared. “People reveal different elements of themselves to fans, the touring group, the rest of the band, and so on. I grew up playing a shit-ton of dive bars, just me and my guitar. I wanted the song to reflect how psychologically exhausting it is, treating the chorus like an inner monologue cornered by how lonely and uncool live indie music can feel.”
She also shared how reading fiction impacted her writing. “I read a lot of fantasy, and there’s a character I was introduced to called the Fiend Folio, who can absorb the power of magical objects by coming in contact with them, and in turn, drains the magic from them, disenchants them,” Reid added. “Maybe it’s morbid, but a writer takes an experience and turns it around and around, looking for what makes it worth paying attention to, what makes it enchanting, and in doing so, drains some of that magic and metabolizes it into something that belongs to them.”
