It must have been quite an experience for The Linda Lindas when they first played together as part of a cover band of kids assembled by Dum Dum Girls' Kristin Kontrol for Girlschool LA in 2018. Sisters Mila de la Garza and Lucia de la Garza, cousin Eloise Wong, and family friend Bela Salazar officially formed the band after that gig, but they never could have imagined the whirlwind they would ride after a video of their performance of “Racist, Sexist Boy” at the Cypress Park branch of the LA Public Library went viral in 2021.
The band has since released their debut album Growing Up on Epitaph Records, performed on late night TV with Fallon and Corden, opened for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the Hollywood Bowl and Forest Hills Stadium, toured with Best Coast, The Breeders, Blondie, and Jawbreaker, among others, and just this past weekend played at their first Coachella.
We asked the band to document their experience at the festival, from stopping at the famous Cabazon Dinosaurs to hanging backstage to a special guest spot during The Breeders' set on their Last Splash classic "Saints."
Check out the photos by Alice Baxley with captions by the band below, and catch them again at weekend two of Coachella on Saturday on the Sonora stage at 5:35 p.m.
