Since releasing her debut single back in November, LA- and London-based songwriter Grace Inspace Garner has been sharing new tracks at a consistent clip, now with three additional new tracks attached to her moniker: “Good Days,” “Oxytocin,” and “Sunshine Kid.” The latter of which was the only one that didn’t come with a music video, which changes today as she unveils the sunlit music video that was self-directed alongside Kate Garner and Violet King.
“‘Sunshine Kid’ is about the irony of being the person that others rely on for optimism, while not being able to provide that same optimism for yourself,” Garner shares of the CJ Harper–produced single, offering insight into the video’s concept. “It’s about playing the mediator and keeping things at stasis for everyone else and losing connection with your own emotional blueprint in the process.”
In the video, Garner wanders around the city in a sunflower costume looking forlorn. These scenes are intercut with more contemplative shots in a rural setting where she dons a second costume involving long sunflower limbs, dancing around in open spaces as the track blossoms with a breakbeat and backing vocals from Luna Li and Hope Tala.
