Last year, Local Natives returned with a series of singles marking their first new music since 2020’s Sour Lemon EP, a follow-up collection of tunes to 2019’s last proper album Violet Street. Today, though, we get the news that their next full-length—titled Time Will Wait for No One—will arrive this summer. The band shared this morning that the record was written “during a time of metamorphosis” in their personal lives, full of extreme highs and lows for each member.
“There was a moment halfway through making the album, we played one of the most emotional concerts of our lives,” the band explained in a press release. “A sold-out show at the Greek Theater in LA, our first performance in almost two years, and we didn’t know if it would be our last. As individuals and as a band, we were on the verge of a collapse. Time flows on uncontrollably and change is relentless, and the people you love are the only constants. Out of that reckoning we dissolved everything down to start again, and had the most prolific period of songwriting in our history. This is the first chapter, Time Will Wait for No One.”
In spite of all this chaos, the record’s first single “NYE” maintains the breezy SoCal pop-rock sound familiar to the band. Check out the goofy video for the song (featuring a sort-of cameo from Helen Hunt) below, and expect Time to arrive July 7 via Loma Vista.
