What started out as a modest event in 2019 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Salt Lake City's storied indie venue Kilby Court has blossomed into one of the most exciting new music festivals in the country, growing exponentially in the (non-pandemic) years since. The first two editions of Kilby Block Party were actual block parties on Kilby Court’s adjacent street, headlined by Death Cab for Cutie in 2019 and Young The Giant in 2021, before expanding last year to two days at the larger Library Square with headliners Phoebe Bridgers and Mac DeMarco.
This year the festival outdid themselves, moving to the expansive Utah State Fairpark for three days packed with one of the finest festival lineups so far this year, including The Strokes, Run the Jewels, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pavement, Ethel Cain, Weyes Blood, Caroline Polachek, Pixies, The Walkmen, and much more.
FLOOD photographer Christian Sarkine ventured to SLC to witness the evolution first hand. Check out highlights below.
