Earlier this week, Briston Maroney returned with new music following his 2021 debut album Sunflower. “Body” is the first single from the Nashville-based songwriter’s follow-up Ultrapure, announced for release on September 22 via Canvasback Music/Atlantic Records. “My favorite moments in the human experience are ones that you don’t even realize have started, but feel so deeply when you realize they’ve ended. I refer to these as ‘Ultrapure’ moments,” he shared, explaining the LP’s title. “This album was my humble, unqualified, and earnest as hell attempt at sitting in those feelings until they had no choice but to burst out of my head.”
“Body” is a promising look at what’s to come this fall, with the track’s eerie atmosphere and chugging guitars invoking stadium-indie songwriters like Sharon Van Etten. The single also arrives with a light-fantasy visual and the news of the second annual Maroney-curated Paradise Festival, taking place the weekend of October 12 in Nashville with Maroney performing each night alongside artists including Samia, Hovvdy, and Skullcrusher.
