BLK ODYSSY, the project of Austin-based artist Juwan Elcock, has returned with “You Gotta Man,” which will be featured on his upcoming LP Diamonds & Freaks, set for release on June 9. The track features Memphis-bred crooner Kirby, who adds a sultry dichotomy to Elcock’s smooth, half-sung flow. The funk-inspired R&B cut finds BLK ODYSSY musing about missed connections, reminiscing on a partner who might have been the one that got away. “You gotta man, I got a girlfriend / See you next lifetime,” he sings
According to a press release, Diamonds & Freaks is composed of four unique chapters and is “a neo-soul journal, chronicling BLK's adjustment to finding success and his relationship with sex. Written and recorded while on tour and in the midst of a tumultuous time struggling with the health of a family member, the album sways like a moral tug-of-war between success and succumbing to various forms of addiction, and the spirit of religion, faith, family and loss that pulls him back to reality.”
