According to Portugal. The Man, 2023 may not be the Summer of Love, but rather the Summer of Luv. Well, at least that's what the band called their latest single that's out today, which features Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Following their collaboration with Black Thought and Natalia Lafourcade, it's the latest track from the Portland band's upcoming album Chris Black Changed My Life, which is out June 23 via Atlantic.
“When we originally sat down to write 'Summer of Luv' we intended to make this heavy song with a big riff,” vocalist John Gourley shared, “but the vocals came out chill because I was still recovering from my jaw problems, we realized it sat better in this space. The song turned out totally different than we intended.” Adding of the collaboration, he continued: “As we were working on the song, it just felt like it needed another voice, Ruban from Unknown Mortal Orchestra also lives in Portland and is one of our favorite artists, he just fit perfectly in.”
The track comes with an animated visual directed by Andrew Ralph and starring PTM mascot Tank Dog. Watch it below, and pre-order their forthcoming album here.
