Italian reggae ambassador Alborosie has recruited an all-timer for his new single “Over My Shoulders.” The songwriter has teamed up with the Jamaican reggae and dancehall icon Buju Banton for the song featured on Alborosie’s new LP Destiny, which is also out today.
The swaggering cut features airhorns, an infectious melody, and dub-inspired percussion that gives the track a head-nodding groove. Regarding the track, Alborosie reflects: “Buju Banton is a great artist and is full of talent. So there’s something to learn right there. So we just linked up, went to the studio. I built a riddim, gave him the concept and he delivered with a powerful voice.”
According to Alborosie, the track is about him asking the most high to protect him from evil energies and evil people. “Sometimes we are surrounded by evil people... I let them know that the most high is guiding me. He is protecting me from all kinds of negative energy,” he adds.
