Australian songwriter and producer grentperez kicked off June by releasing his latest collection of songs, with the When We Were Younger EP dropping June 2 via Fast Friends and AWAL. Standout single “When The Day Is Done” demonstrates the various genre influences grentperez leans into, from upbeat funk and sparkling, soulful dance-rock to shades of bossa nova. Yet at its gooey center the song is a simple celebration of settling in at home with loved ones after a draining day at work.
During a recent visit to LA, grentperez performed the tune on an acoustic guitar outside the Fast Friends House—the offices of his label, Fast Friends—on a sunny day for “Neighborhoods,” highlighting the intimacy inherent to its lyrics. “The song in its acoustic form feels like it’s from another world from the original,” he shares, “something much more relaxed and intimate, almost like a little jam session.”
