PJ Harvey has shared the new single “I Inside the Old I Dying,” taken from her forthcoming similarly titled album, I Inside the Old Year Dying, which was co-produced by John Parish and Flood. On the track, Harvey’s distorted, almost-pained vocals take center stage, floating atop a brushed drum groove and a sinewy acoustic guitar line reminiscent of late-period Radiohead. The song follows “A Child’s Question, August,” which arrived at the end of April.

Regarding the new track Harvey shared, “This delicate and beautiful song eluded us until the very last day in the studio. Over the previous five weeks we had tried so many times to capture it and failed, and/but then John [Parish] reinvented the feel of the guitar pattern. As he was demonstrating it in the control room, Flood handed me a microphone and pressed record whilst I sat next to John trying to work out how to sing to it. The result somehow captures the ethereal and melancholic longing I was looking for.”

To coincide with this track, Harvey has also announced a run of tour dates in the UK and Europe, beginning in late September with shows in Dublin, Glasgow, London, and Manchester before touring throughout continental Europe—see the full list of dates here. The new song is also accompanied by an animated music video directed by Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña, which you can check out below. You can pre-order I Inside The Old Year Dying before it arrives on July 7 via Partisan Records here.
