Considering Tessa Violet initially achieved success as a YouTuber, it’s no surprise to learn that the title track from the pop songwriter’s newly announced LP MY GOD! was born from a revelation she had while scrolling TikTok. The euphoric new single hones in on the democracy of pleasure often overlooked in inherently male-centric heterosexual partnerings, channeling the newfound delights of “seeing the light” for a euphemism-heavy earworm.
“I saw a TikTok video posted by a queer woman,” Violet shares, “where she said, ‘When you have sex with a girl who’s only been with men before it can really be a sexual awakening because for the first time she’s thinking, what does sex look like to me if i’m not absolutely prioritizing my partner’s pleasure over mine—or sometimes at the cost of mine?’ It made me think about how heterosexual women have so often been conditioned to prioritize a man’s pleasure to the point of being out of touch with their own desire. What would that look like to honor your desire? It was a whole awakening for me.”
The track arrives ahead of MY GOD!’s July 14 release, and will be slated alongside previously released hits “YES MOM” and “You Are Not My Friend.” Check it out below.
