You may immediately recognize Emily Kinney from her role as Beth Greene on AMC’s The Walking Dead, but with her upcoming fifth album Swimteam she’s firmly establishing herself as an accomplished songwriter as well. The lightly grungy sounds of lead single “Walkin’ Round Your Dreams” and the more laid-back acoustic swells of its follow-up “False Start” provide an alluring taste of the new LP dropping September 22 via Julian Records while making her yet-to-be-announced tour dates surrounding the release just as exciting.
In the meantime, Kinney stopped by FLOOD FM (via her makeshift studio in her kitchen) to give us a sense of what she’s had on repeat lately on a new episode of “Hacked.” Taking over the station for an hour, you can hear Kinney spin a wide variety of dance music and indie-folk ranging from the early ’10s to today—Robyn, Frightened Rabbit, Joy Oladokun, and Samia all make appearances on the songwriter/actress’ playlist.
