Austin-based songwriter, producer, and Song Confessional podcast host Walker Lukens has returned with a new single, “I See U.” The charming romantic jam marks the second track off of his forthcoming album, Accessible Beauty, out this August with Lucky Hound Music. Lukens also shared a live performance video stylized in black and white alongside the track.
Regarding the track, Lukens says: “I had the verse melody and first lyric to ‘I See U’ for 10-plus years. I had always heard it as a kind of acoustic-y Astral Weeks vibe. In March 2020, I went to CDMX with Alexander Beggins [Wild Child] to write songs for what I thought was going to be a new project for me. We had a little digital TASCAM, Juno 106, SM7 microphone, and the iMaschine drum machine app on my phone. The drum programming and Juno 106 part that you hear on the final version are exactly like the demo we made. It was the last thing we worked on before leaving.
“As luck would have it, we got home just in time to stay there for a couple months, which really informed where the song went lyrically. Production-wise, I really tried to channel Sade, Soft Cell, Talk Talk, Spandau Ballet…big synth romance vibe.” Check out a live session below, and stream the song here.
