We’re coming up on the one-year anniversary of Katy J Pearson’s sophomore album Sound of the Morning, which was released early in July of 2022. Yet now that we’re intimately familiar with the twanging Americana and lush chamber pop of the record’s 11 tracks, the form they take in Pearson’s “Neighborhoods” session filmed in LA’s Silver Lake neighborhood provide a fresh look at three of the LP’s standout tracks: the title track, “Float,” and “Alligator.”
Set up at the top of the Mattachine Steps—a monument dedicated to the gay rights organization the Mattachine Society—Pearson shares that the view it leads up to made the filming session a great experience. “It was such a beautiful day, too,” she notes. “I choose to play ‘Sound of the Morning,’ ‘Float,’ and ‘Alligator’ as they all felt fitting for the time of day and I just really enjoy playing them stripped back!”
