The Folk Implosion, Lou Barlow and John Davis’ recently reactivated musical project, will release Music For KIDS, a deluxe reissue of their original compositions that soundtracked Harmony Korine and Larry Clark’s 1995 cult classic film. The new edition will arrive on September 8 via Domino Records.
Nearly 30 years after Kids’ monumental release, Music For KIDS compiles for the first time all of the songs the duo wrote for the movie, newly remastered, including B-sides and previously unreleased tracks. Many will be available on streaming services for the first time in years, including the band’s most famous song, the surprise Top 40 hit single “Natural One.” The album also adds remixes by UNKLE (James Lavelle and DJ Shadow) and Dust Brothers, along with an instrumental version of “Nothing Gonna Stop.”
“Harmony was sort of bombarding me with fan letters,” Barlow remembers. “That was the peak of my popularity with Sebadoh. Then he sent me the script for Kids.”
The rest is history. To celebrate the reissue, Folk Implosion have re-released "Natural One," the UNKLE remix of the track, and a live video recorded in March at Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium Recordings studios in North Carolina. Barlow and Davis are joined in the performance by Alex Lazara, Dariush Mirsajedin, and James Phillips.
