Although they hail from Scunthorpe, England, Rupert and Henry Stansall’s music as Ruen Brothers has always mined distinctly American sounds, from the rockabilly of their Rick Rubin–produced debut All My Shades of Blue to their latest endeavor, the Americana-indebted Ten Paces. With an homage to the Southern Gothic film classic Night of the Hunter among the album’s visual accompaniments, and with the Brothers recently relocating to the American Heartland, Ten Paces is their most fully immersive exploration of US culture and mythology.
For their recent “Neighborhoods” set, the duo recorded a nocturnal performance in Louisville, Kentucky’s Cherokee Park, where the Ten Paces cut “Slow Draw” fully comes to life. “‘Slow Draw’ felt like the right song to perform within the setting,” they share. “The still and quiet feeling of the park at night reflected the sentiment of ‘slowness’ perfectly. We wanted to film the session in a location that was near and dear to us within the brief time that we have spent living in Louisville. Deep in the heart of Cherokee Park made sense. It’s where we take our breaks between planning, writing and recording. It's’ helped inspire a few ideas and provided a wonderful space for clarity and escape.”
