Ghanaian-Australian artist Genesis Owusu has returned with a stomping, jangly, defiant new single entitled “Tied Up!” The infectious new cut will be featured on his forthcoming album STRUGGLER, due out August 18 via OURNESS/AWAL.
On the song, Owusu taps into the album’s pervasive themes of trying to persevere through the muck of life. He sings, “I’m bleeding from my legs but it’s alright today / It’s better out here than the hell where I stay / I say, my feelings start to wobble when I stare at the doves / I’m fighting through life, I have no boxing gloves.”
According to a press release, “The album takes inspiration from a close friend hitting the brink and coming through the other side, in conjunction with prompted questions of life and beauty that Owusu found himself contemplating during readings of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis—references that are explicitly featured in ‘Tied Up!’”
