Since 1997, the Skirbal Cultural Center—a Jewish educational institution and museum space situated in the Santa Monica Mountains near the Getty Center—has presented an annual Sunset Concerts series in their outdoor courtyard, featuring eclectic musical lineups bridging the gap of rock, jazz, R&B, folk, indie, rap, and beyond from around the world. The Center's 26th season builds on that premise with another unique lineup, including LA indie rocker IAN SWEET, Brooklyn-based afrobeat ensemble Antibalas, Gambian singer and multi-instrumentalist Sona Jobarteh, and Cuban rapper/poet Telmary, among others. The evening concerts kick off Thursday, July 20 with veteran R&B singer Billy Valentine, and continue every Thursday night through August 24.
“2023 promises to bring an exciting lineup of bridge-building artists from across the globe,” stated Marlene Braga, Skirbal Cultural Center's Vice President of Programs. “Although all the performers draw upon strong musical traditions, they also actively challenge these foundations, helping them evolve. Listeners will have the opportunity to experience a multitude of genres this summer—from rhythm & blues, afrobeat and Ethiopian melodies to Cuban rap, indie rock, and West African folk music.”
The events are presented free of charge, with RSVP recommended. Check out the full schedule and RSVP here. All concerts begin at 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
