With their newly released sixth album I Want It All Right Now, art-rock ensemble Grouplove managed to craft some of their most energetic and experimental soundscapes to date paired with some of their most thoughtful, honest lyrics, inspired in part by band leaders Christian Zucconi and Hannah Hooper’s recent transition into parenthood. “Why do we always want something more than what we have?” seems to be the central question the record revolves around, resulting in 11 introspective recordings that each explore this thought in unique ways.
Although the album’s instrumentation constantly pushes the envelope toward the future of indie-pop, the band’s inventive streak is entirely fueled by the past—both recent and distant. Taking over FLOOD FM this week for a new episode of “Hacked,” Zucconi and Hooper crafted a tracklist that spans from the early experiments in post-punk and new wave of Talking Heads and Wire to the class of inventive indie acts Grouplove came up alongside, such as alt-J and Broncho—and beyond.
Tune in here to catch the full episode when it airs every day this week (July 31 to August 4) at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 10 p.m. PT on FLOOD FM, and check out I Want It All Right Now (out now on Glassnote) here.
