Black Pumas have returned with new single “More Than a Love Song.” It’s the first track to be unveiled from the Austin duo’s sophomore effort, Chronicles of a Diamond, set for release on October 27 via ATO Records. Co-written and co-produced by the band’s own Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada, “More Than a Love Song” features additional production by GRAMMY-winner John Congleton.
On the track, the duo cook up a psych-soul epic laced with emotive strings and strutting percussion. Burton’s vocals shine atop this lush instrumental, singing of black birds flying high and sweet soul music. Explaining the lyrical content, Burton shared that the song’s message was inspired by his Uncle Steve. “As a songwriter and caregiver, he’d listen to me write songs from afar and if I were lucky he’d have a pointer or two for me. Life is more than a love song.”
Shot on location in Los Angeles, the music video for “More Than a Love Song” was directed by Juliana and Nicola Giraffe. Check out the visual below, and pre-order Chronicles of a Diamond here.
