Last December, we lost brilliant songwriter Terry Hall after a private battle with pancreatic cancer. As the vocalist for The Specials and Fun Boy Three, Hall made a profound impact by ushering in the two-tone/ska revival in the late-’70s while fiercely addressing social issues and racism in his songwriting, influencing generations of songwriters to come.
Now, many of those artists he impacted are coming together for a two-night celebration of his music in LA on October 13 and 14, including No Doubt’s Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont, and Adrian Young, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, Fishbone, Shepard Fairey, and more. The Specials’ Lynval Golding and Horace Panter are also scheduled to appear, as well as “a super secret special guest,” according to Fishbone.
The event—taking place at a private LA backyard—will benefit Musack, an LA-based organization that gives “kids and teens a a voice through music by providing guitars, drums, and support to music teachers wherever the need arises.” Tickets and more information can be found here.
