Last week, we launched a new sub-series within our ongoing “Neighborhoods” performance series which specifically focuses on Oslo, Norway’s long-running Øya Festival—less so the world-renowned artists who travel great distances to headline the event than the local talent that provides the fest with its unique flavor. The miniseries aims to focus on such groups as they perform in various locations around the city.

For the second installment, Spellemann-Award–winning indie-pop songwriter Malin Pettersen performed two songs—a recent live recording called “Demo of a One Night Stand” and “Who I Am,” one of the singles released ahead of her forthcoming Trouble Finding Words LP—in the city’s Torshov neighborhood on a hillside in a park called Torshovdalen overlooking downtown Oslo. While recent singles have indicated a flirtation with pop music, these acoustic recordings take Pettersen back to her alt-country roots.
