boygenius brought their whirlwind live show to the world’s most famous arena this week, running through their discography at Madison Square Garden. The trio of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker began the show from backstage, performing “Without You Without Them” projected onto a screen. Their wide-reaching set consisted of songs from their latest LP, the record, their self-titled 2018 debut, and for their first encore they went to a small stage in the back of the stadium and performed their entire new EP, the rest. Each member also performed a solo cut from their respective discographies.
Other highlights included seeing security guards handing out tissues during their performance, Baker revealing that Dacus and Bridgers gave her confidence in her voice, recollections of playing Brooklyn Steel back in 2018 (which they said was their favorite show until this one), and the crowd holding up pictures of their dogs during “Me & My Dog.” To leave nothing behind, Dacus and Bridgers ripped off their shirts during the final encore of “Salt in the Wound.”
The show began with an opening set from MUNA, who are signed to Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records. Phoebe made an appearance during their performance, joining along for their hit single “Silk Chiffon.”
