Everything’s bigger in Texas, so they say, and the Austin City Limits Festival is no exception. Every October, the homegrown event takes over Austin's famed Zilker Park, hosting over 100,000 festival revelers who flock to the Texas capital for two weekends of great music, savory eats, and, of course, plenty of libations. And coming off a summer that saw record-breaking heat, the 70s and low-80s temps felt throughout the weekend were welcomed with open arms.
This year’s lineup boasted a marquee headlining class of Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, Shania Twain, The Lumineers, ODESZA, and Mumford & Sons—but it was the meaty undercard that defined the fest this year rather than the cast of predictable draws. Aside from Kendrick giving an abridged set on Friday due to travel delays, the weekend went off without a hitch.
Here’s our recap from weekend one as documented by FLOOD photographer Daniel Cavazos.
