For nearly as long as she’s been fronting Throwing Muses, Kristin Hersh has been nurturing a consistent career as a solo songwriter dabbling in contemporary folk music rather than the alt-rock sounds she’s mostly come to be known for between the aforementioned project and the later 50 Foot Wave. She released her eleventh solo record Clear Pond last month after teasing it with the grunge-y acoustic-rock track “Ms Haha.” “Ms. Haha is my nickname,” she tells us, “taken from a Truman Capote story. My love, Mr. Bones, once said, ‘I shall party it down,’ and that stuck in my head for…well, forever, I guess, ’cause apparently it’s still stuck there.”

It’s this track she performed for us in a recent “Neighborhoods” session filmed outside of Stable Sound Studio in Newport, Rhode Island where the new album was recorded. While equally driving, the solo-acoustic version Hersh performs—backlit by sunny conditions highlighting the greenery of her surroundings—shaves some of the edge off. Check it out below.
