Nisa, the solo project of Nisa Lumaj, has unveiled two new singles entitled “Currents” and “Vertigo” as her first releases with Portland-based label Tender Loving Empire—whose recent releases include titles from Y La Bamba, Andy Shauf, and Death Cab for Cutie’s Dave Depper. According to a press release, “Currents” examines “the power of human connection as an energy source,” while its B-side is “an account of healing trauma through embodiment and a reminder of the need for stability.”
Regarding the signing, Tender Loving Empire founder Jared Mees said, “Nisa is the best kind of enigma. Her songs are complex yet catchy. The production is concise but still fun. Her vocal style and range of emotions are astounding. The upshot is music that is beautiful and honest and powerful. We are super excited to get to work with such a talent as Nisa. I can’t wait to spin this record on vinyl.”
Additionally, Nisa is kicking off her West Coast solo tour today with a show at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles. Check out the visuals for “Currents” and “Vertigo” below, and find her full run of tour dates here. You can also revisit Nisa’s recent “Neighborhoods” session she filmed for us here.
