Devo clearly seems to be plenty busy this year, despite having formed (exactly) five decades ago. In the midst of an expansive tour schedule celebrating their half century as an influential voice within and beyond the new wave scene, and in the wake of numerous massive reissue campaigns and vinyl collections celebrating their legacy, (and before, as Mark Mothersbaugh hinted to us, the band is digitally reincarnated) co-founder Gerald V. Casale is finding time to promote his 2022 solo EP The Invisible Man with a newly reissued version of the release available now.
In addition, the EP cut “Lounge: Pay U Back” (which featured Oingo Boingo’s Steve Bartek on guitar and Josh Freese on drums—before he went on to join Foo Fighters) is getting a music video today that brings Casale’s eclectic sound into the fourth dimension. Created with 360-degree virtual CG in collaboration with 4D Fun Studios, the clip is a trippy blend of surreally staged live performance and computer animation with both Bartek and Freese accompanying Casale’s commanding presence.
