After giving us an update on the slow-but-steady recording of new material when we spoke with them last October, The Jesus and Mary Chain have announced today that their new album Glasgow Eyes will arrive on March 8 via Fuzz Club. To tease the release, the duo of brothers Jim and William Reid have shared the project’s first single “jamcod” (spell it out). The group will further mark their 40th year of the moniker in 2024 with an autobiography published by Orion/White Rabbit and a major UK/European tour.
Glasgow Eyes was recorded at Scottish post-rockers Mogwai’s Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow. The album, according to a press release, is “informed more audibly by their love for Suicide and Kraftwerk and a fresh appreciation of the less disciplined attitudes found in jazz.” Jim Reid elaborated, “But don’t expect ‘the Mary Chain goes jazz.’ People should expect a Jesus and Mary Chain record, and that’s certainly what Glasgow Eyes is. Our creative approach is remarkably the same as it was in 1984, just hit the studio and see what happens.”
