As the year winds down, house musician LP Giobbi has plenty to be proud of between touring the world, remixing Taylor Swift, releasing her debut album Light Places via Counter Records, launching her own label imprint called Yes Yes Yes, and, most recently, dropping a new single called “Waiting” via another imprint: Diplo’s High Ground. Yet she’s not stopping there—the prolific dance music figure is playing out 2023 by wrapping up a North American tour before playing a pair of New Year’s Eve sets, followed by more touring planned for 2024.
In the meantime, LP Giobbi is finding other ways to help listeners find their “light place,” as her recent full-length debut refers to it. One such avenue is via the playlist she compiled for us which emphasizes the positivity she channels through her own music, as well as the remix work and collaborations she tends to be drawn to. From reworking Jerry Garcia to writing alongside Little Boots, this collection of songs is a psychedelic journey to the dancefloor equally fitting for finding inner peace and “getting as weird as possible” in a communal setting.
Check out her picks and writeups and listen to the playlist below.
Grateful Dead, “Eyes of the World”
This is my mom’s favorite song, so whenever I feel homesick on the road I put it on. It’s in a major key, and you can feel the positivity upon hearing the very first notes of the tune
Goose, “Arrow”
I had the honor of remixing this tune for Goose. They’re a really special jam band that will continue to push the jam-band culture forward.
Jerry Garcia, “Deal” (LP Giobbi Remix)
Last year, the Garcia family asked me to remix Jerry Garcia’s first solo album, which was a massive honor. My remix of “Deal” ended up being one of my favorites.
Pink Floyd, “The Great Gig in the Sky”
Whenever I play my track “Georgia” out, I layer it with this song. The live drums and screaming woman add to the build in just the perfect way.
Grateful Dead, “Not Fade Away”
I end a lot of my sets with this as the Dead used to. It’s a call-and-response between the crowd and band going back and forth: “No, our love will not fade away.” Hearing a room full of people sing this in unison gives me goosebumps every time.
LP Giobbi, Redfield, and DJ Rae, “Waiting”
I’ve been playing this track all over the world to all types of dancefloors, and it blows me away by how universally it works. Small clubs to big festivals—it just gets people going!
LP Giobbi, feat. hermixalot and Computo, “Amber Rose”
This is the first track I ever released and it will always have a special place in my heart. Just a group of friends playing around and having fun.
LP Giobbi feat. Little Boots, “Meet Again”
This track was written during the pandemic and was one of my first tracks to really connect [with audiences]. I’m so grateful for the journey this track sent me on.
Dom Dolla, “Pump the Brakes” (LP Giobbi Remix)
This was the first time I really stepped outside the box when working on a remix. Dom Dolla is the king of bangers, so it was a fun challenge to make this track more beautiful and go the other direction.
LP Giobbi feat. DJ Tennis and Joseph Ashworth, “All in a Dream”
This track brings me so, so, so much joy with a sense of nostalgia.
LP Giobbi, “Time Expands”
This is the first release on my label and was written purely for the dancefloor to get as weird and psychedelic as possible!
