Mdou Moctar have announced a new album titled Funeral for Justice, set to be released on May 3 via Matador Records. Recorded after two years spent touring the globe following the release of 2019 Afrique Victime, the album is introduced by its title track, which is built around an absolute smorgasbord of shredding guitars. As is always the case with Mdou, this is rock music that is unabashedly enthralled with massive solos, and this dedication is an extremely good thing.
“This album is really different for me,” explained Moctar, the band’s singer, namesake, and guitarist. “Now the problems of terrorist violence are more serious in Africa. When the US and Europe came here, they said they’re going to help us, but what we see is really different. They never help us to find a solution.”
