The reason you’ve been seeing less of Caleb Landry Jones onscreen since he seemed to be everywhere at the tail end of last decade—from Get Out to Twin Peaks: The Return to many an A24 movie—likely has to do with the fact that the pandemic permitted the actor/musician to finally record and release the stacks of songs he’s written over the years dating back long before his acting career took off. With the upcoming release of Hey Gary, Hey Dawn, he’ll have released four albums of dizzyingly surreal psych-rock in five years through Sacred Bones Records, home of the musical output of his past filmmaking collaborators Jim Jarmusch and David Lynch.

Ahead of the new album’s April 5 release date, though, Jones can be found teasing the release at SXSW, including a spot on FLOOD’s own March 14 showcase at the Mohawk. And before that, you can get a taste of Jones’ musical influences as he takes over FLOOD FM’s “Hacked” series all week with a deeply obscure track list which includes, among many other deep cuts, one of his early recordings with his former band Robert Jones. Tune in to FLOOD FM between March 4 and March 8 at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 10 p.m. to hear the full episode—and if you’re headed to Austin next week you can RSVP for FLOODfest here.
