Among the tender indie-folk ballads that make up Queensland duo Hollow Coves’ newly released sophomore album Nothing to Lose is “See You Soon,” a heartfelt reminder to reach out to the friends in your life who’ve slowly started to drift away. “The song is all about trying to encourage the listener to reconnect with those people,” they share of the track. “Just send them a message or give them a call and see where they’re at. I’m sure they’d really appreciate it.” The instrumental, meanwhile, evolved from a live cover of Angus and Julia Stone’s “Mango Tree” the duo used to perform at their live shows.
For their “Neighborhoods” set celebrating the release of the LP last Friday, Hollow Coves performed the cut in the Currumbin Valley in Gold Coast, Australia. Set up on a river near their recording space, the lushly shot clip of the fully acoustic rendition also captures an eyeful of the area’s picturesque greenery. “The location where we filmed this video is just down the road from our studio,” the band notes. “It's always felt like such a magical place every time we have been there. We wanted to try to capture some of that magic in this video.”
