Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Julien Chang kicked off March with the release of the four-song EP Home for the Moment, a collection of recordings “about Baltimore, [his] home, and the people who live there.” The first single, title track, and opening song on the release most explicitly speaks to these themes as the songwriter’s falsetto coos nostalgic lines over a warm bed of acoustic guitar. “It’s a song about returning home and slowing down—against my will but for my soul,” Chang shared upon the track’s release.
For his “Neighborhoods” set, Chang brought the tune up the East Coast to Somerville, Massachusetts, where he performed a rendition of it on his friend Akiva’s porch. After a brief introduction to both musicians, their dating cameras, and a little green friend, Akiva backs Chang up with additional acoustic guitar during their performance as the duo maintain the delicate beauty of the recording on a gray winter day, Chang’s breath occasionally visible as he delivers the song’s lyrics.
