The legend himself, John Cale, has announced a new album, POPtical Illusion. It’ll be his second in 18 months following last January’s Mercy, and if the former Velvet Underground composer, who is 82, can not only drop two albums in under two years but also make the title of one extremely punny, what the hell are you doing with your life?
The iconic songwriter and composer has given us a peek under the hood of POPtical in the form of first single and video “How We See the Light.” I’m not a betting man (I am), but if I was (again, I am), I would drop some cash (I will) on Cale seeing the light much, much differently than I do. I have bird eyes. He can probably see all the colors ever at once. Anyways, the track is a fairly haunted, bouncy synth-pop track buoyed by a hi-hat rhythm that almost sounds like breaking glass and Cale almost making his way toward darkwave? Hell yeah.
