Last week we kicked off a new “Neighborhoods” subseries focusing on some of the most exciting acts from NYC’s New Colossus festival, which recently took place across various independent venues in Manhattan’s Lower East Side with over 100 emerging international artists in rock music and beyond taking the stage. Today’s episode features another one of those band’s with Brooklyn post-punks/surf-rockers Mary Shelley performing a pair of tracks on a street corner with the famous Katz’s Delicatessen providing a glowing backdrop to their evening set.

Despite the aforementioned genre tags, the brief performance is made up of two songs—“Blasé,” from their 2022 debut album Look at You, and the unreleased “Bloodhounds”—which both lean into Violent Femmes–esque freak-folk as the band’s typical stage setup gets stripped back to acoustic guitars and bass, snare, and tambourine. Check it out below.
