YOASOBI—the Japanese duo of composer Ayase and vocalist ikura—unleashed their debut single “Into the Night (Yoru ni Kakeru)” in 2019, and have been on a whirlwind ride ever since. That song and subsequent singles (including 2023’s “Idol,” the opening theme of hit anime Oshi no Ko) catapulted them to international acclaim, garnering millions of streams and attracting a feverish fanbase.
The duo just released E-SIDE 3, their third English-language EP, on April 12, and arrived in the US immediately after for their first headlining shows here (at the Shrine Exposition Hall in LA and The Warfield in San Francisco), along with performing on the Mojave stage at both weekends of Coachella. Aside from an appearance at Head in the Clouds fest last summer, these are the group’s first major performances in the States.
We asked Ayase and ikura to document this historic moment in their career, taking us behind the scenes with a series of candid moments during their week in and around Coachella 2024.
