Steve Albini, the legendary musician and engineer, has died of a heart attack, according to staff at his recording studio, Electrical Audio. The news was confirmed by Pitchfork. The artist and engineer was a leader in bands like Shellac and Big Black, and recorded a number of classic albums including Nirvana’s In Utero, Pixies’ Surfer Rosa, The Jesus Lizard’s Head, Low’s Things We Lost in the Fire, and countless others.
Tragically, Shellac was preparing to tour in support of their first album in 10 years. That record, To All Trains, is scheduled to be released on May 17.
Below, revisit a conversation Albini had with Damian Abraham of Fucked Up and Don Bolles of The Germs for FLOOD’s “Punk as Fuck” video series.
