Austin’s newest post-punk upstarts Font have shared a new single entitled “Natalie’s Song,” a shaky and tension-filled track from their upcoming debut album Strange Burden. The new single gives off serious dance-punk vibes, thanks in part to sloshing sixteenth note hi hats and the persistent appearance of the woodblock. “What I found was that certain images and associations would emerge naturally, without intention,” Thom Waddill shares of the track’s lyrics, as well as those across much of Strange Burden more broadly. “Also, the phrases would be informed by whatever it was I was thinking about at the time. So a picture does form. But it isn’t for me to interpret. I think of the lyrics more as artifacts of a process.”
The track comes alongside a lyric video featuring found-footage collages made made up of stock video and iPhone recordings. It was inspired by the work of Joan Jonas, Jenny Holzer, and Virginia Lee Montgomery. Check that out below, and pre-order Strange Burden ahead of its July 12 release via Acrophase Records here.
