It’s finally here, the video proof that the myth is true—Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig are, in fact, starring in a completely real Lifetime movie.
Yesterday afternoon, the basic cable station that is best known for melodramatic made-for-TV movies released the first teaser trailer for A Deadly Adoption. There’s not much to decipher from the twenty-second-long video, but that doesn’t really matter, because it shows both Ferrell and Wiig covered in costume-shop-quality fake blood and looking very concerned. Something sinister is definitely afoot on this highway.
Lifetime’s official synopsis states that the film was inspired by a true story and “is a high-stakes dramatic thriller about a successful couple (Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig) who house and care for a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes) during the final months of her pregnancy with the hope of adopting her unborn child.” You had us at “high-stakes dramatic thriller.”
The film—which was first announced on April Fools’ Day, causing much confusion—was written by The Spoils of Babylon‘s Andrew Steele, which is promising for fans ready to see an excellent and ridiculous send-up of Lifetime’s normal fare. Let’s just hope they work in a few digs at the horrific and not-fit-for-theaters Grace of Monaco.
A Deadly Adoption will premiere on June 20 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
