Last weekend, lovers of electronic music, pop, hip-hop, jam bands, and everything in between descended upon Rothbury, Michigan’s Electric Forest for this summer’s iteration of the innovative music festival established in 2011. Despite some uncooperative weather, the weekend was full of glowing sets from an eclectic mix of artists, including Ludacris, Umphrey’s McGee, Charlotte de Witte, and Subtronics.
Among the performers was LA-based house musician LP Giobbi, who made waves this week with the reveal of her sophomore album Dotr, preceded by a lead single featuring her longtime-favorite indie rockers Portugal. The Man. Ahead of that news, though, Giobbi lit up the Michigan fest with a memorable set and an important panel with her Femme House nonprofit, which aims to amplify marginalized voices within DJ and production spaces.
And although her other highlight of the weekend—jamming with The String Cheese Incident—ultimately got rained out, the photo recap she returned home with indicates it was overall a fun weekend. Below, LP Giobbi walks us through the weekend in both words and photos.
Started off the weekend right with a Femme House panel at the Brainery. It was an incredible conversation about “Allyship + Amplification,” with myself, Hermixalot, TSHA, Maddy O’Neal, and John Summit.
So grateful to everyone who showed up! Femme House is my “why,” and the support from our community means so much to me.
Exploring the festival campgrounds with my best friend and Femme House co-founder Hermixalot (a.k.a. Lauren Spalding).
Played a magical set at Honeycomb stage on Saturday night!
Nothing makes me happier than playing a set in the forest.
This is Mascolo. He played the Honeycomb stage right after my set and he’s like a little brother to me. Go check out his debut release Call on my label Yes Yes Yes!
A moment for the dress I wore by the Greek designer, karima one of a kind.
Prepping for a surprise performance at the Ocular Organ.
The Ocular Organ at Electric Forest is by far one of the coolest spots at the festival. I’ve been dying to play it, and so happy we made it happen this year. Shoutout to Big Gigantic on the horns.
Lunch break with my family. This was one of the first times in years that I’ve gotten to experience a festival for the entire weekend, and so glad they were there with me. Love my parents for always being at the front of the rails at my sets.
Rehearsing to sit in with String Cheese Incident during their set!
All smiles with String Cheese Incident, but I was so, so bummed the last night got rained out so we didn’t get to perform together.
That’s a wrap on Electric Forest! Thank you to my photographer Sarah Northrop, my tour manager Xander, the entire Femme House team, and my family for crushing the whole weekend. We weathered the storm together.
