Bartees Strange has returned with a new single and video, “Lie 95,” which follows his 2022 album Farm to Table. The track is an ode to the infamous interstate that runs up from Florida to Maine and tortures drivers navigating the East Coast highway daily. On the cut, Bartees croons over muted drum pads and piano chords before the song opens up and features a triumphant chorus: “Ain’t no need for lying,” Strange belts.
“This song is about searching for love all across the Northeast corridor (I-95)—my universe,” Strange said of “Lie 95.” “I’m thinking of ‘love’ in a broad way: partners, friends, and community. This one’s for the highway…and everything I meet through it.”
