After churning out two albums over the course of two years with his band Local Natives, Nik Ewing is kicking back this fall with a more subdued solo release under his solo moniker, Chewing. The forthcoming Songs for Linnéa will be a collection of piano ballads inspired by and dedicated to his titular daughter. “When my first child was born, I played piano for her almost daily,” he shared with us last month upon the announcement of his second LP. “This album is for her, to have a document of the music from the beginning of her life.”
Leading up to the album’s release, Ewing, joined by friend and musician Tam Visher, brought a few of the album’s tracks to Glendale Galleria for an on-location “Neighborhoods” performance of piano duets at the local mall. After performing a stirring rendition of “Morning After the Greek,” though, they were kindly asked to leave, leading them to what appears to be a public-use, out-of-tune set of keys outside of the Americana on which they played an equally lovely version of Ewing’s cover of The Beatles’ “She Loves You.”
