It’s pretty safe to say that whenever anyone hears the idea of a brand-new movie about America’s beloved Peanuts characters they shudder in horror, as they naturally should. Those big Hollywood hot-shots could only ruin the purity and immense joy that the legendary comic strip brought to the world since 1950, right?
Well, we hate to break it to you (if you weren’t already aware), but the Peanuts brand has been producing mediocre specials and lending its characters to things like insurance commercials for years. So, why is there such a big to-do over the upcoming 20th Century Fox film The Peanuts Movie? Because there’s potential for it to be really good.
The movie’s 3-D animation (that, honestly, still looks kind of strange) harkens back to the original pen drawing style of Charles Schluz, the story follows the classic Charlie Brown plot of trying to win the heart of the Little Red-Haired Girl, and all of the kid character voices are played by actual children—just like the unbeatable TV specials A Charlie Brown Christmas and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. In another nod of the cap to the quintessential holiday specials, the voices of Snoopy and Woodstock will still be played by Bill Melendez via archival recordings.

The Peanuts Movie is slated for a November 6 release.
