Despite Lollapalooza’s growing reputation as a training ground for some of today’s most promising pop stars, the Chicago-based festival still leaves plenty of room in their four-day lineup for established indie and alt-rock acts, such as Saturday headliners The Killers. The following night, indie-pop duo Cults took the stage for an 8 p.m. set that drew crowds nostalgic for a similar era of indie, with Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion performing tracks from their newly released sixth album To the Ghosts.
Although only a brief (yet certainly important) glimpse into the record’s life cycle, we asked Follin to document the band’s performance on Sunday in words and photos. From waking up to the news that she’d be taking on this endeavor to a moment of unwinding after their set, checkout what she came up with below.
This is me waking up the morning of Lollapalooza on our bus moments after finding out that we’d been asked to do this FLOOD Magazine photo diary.
We went to do some press and were starving afterward, so we headed to catering and ran into Sophie and Andrew, who’ve helped us make a lot of the video content for our new record.
Here’s the mess I made while trying to decide what to wear for the show (I went with the shorts).
Took some Polaroids with Andrew before heading on to the stage.
When I got to the stage we had to sign a safety waiver.
And then I went to grab my in-ears from our sound guy, who must’ve said something absolutely hilarious.
Making sure I’m all buckled in.
Tuning up and making sure everything is working.
Nervously loitering around the side of the stage waiting for showtime.
The show was so much fun and it felt so good to finally be playing the new record for people!
Ended the night with a post-show golf cart joyride.
