Last week we kicked off our latest “Neighborhoods” subseries dedicated to performances within and around the grounds of some of the world’s most interesting music festivals with a short setlist filmed at San Luis Obispo’s indie-electronic fest Shabang. Following series spotlighting NYC’s New Colossus and Oslo’s Øya Festival, this current set of videos sees artists playing music live at Daisy Creek Golf Course on the coast of Central California at the May event that additionally featured art installations and pop-ups from renowned wineries, breweries, and local food vendors.

Following Peach Pit’s two-song set, this week we’re sharing a performance by SoCal surf-pop trio Sun Room, who rip through their tracks “Just Yesterday” (from 2021’s Somewhere Tropical EP) and “Hate It When You Call” (from their brand new Can’t Explain EP, released last week) on the festival grounds. “Shabang might have been our most fun festival yet,” notes the band’s Luke Asgian. “Right at sunset and hectic energy in the crowd. Love how many young people come out for this fest and mosh and dance around; not a lot of jaded people standing around with their arms crossed, which is always good. Great energy at this one, hopefully back soon.”

Come for the good energy, stay for band member Max Pinamonti’s kazoo impression. Check it out below.
