Last month, Gallant returned with his first new solo material in three years with the single “Fly on the Wall. (Osaka Version),” which also happened to come paired with the reveal of a forthcoming LP called Zinc. on the horizon. As we near the September 27 release date for the alt-R&B songwriter’s third full-length, Gallant is sharing another cut today in the form of the tight yet invigorating “Crimes of Compassion,” a minute-and-a-half-long minimalist soul cut that eventually builds up to a smooth hook and an explosive finale.

“I was talking about relationships and how one thing that poisons a particular relationship could come back in the next relationship—whether it’s with a friend, family member, or romantic partner,” the artist shares regarding the track’s lyrics. “I was trying to diagnose the issue and speak to the cyclical nature of it all. Musically, it follows an emotional arc, tracing different touchpoints of a relationship. You have to fix the issue before it manifests again.”

The song arrives with a music video created by Elizabeth Acevedo which gives the tracks a bit of sci-fi flavoring. Check it out below, and pre-order Zinc. here.
