A few months ago, Amsterdam-based songwriter Jana Mila announced her debut album Chameleon, which leans into both the present indie-country movement and the concurrent Laurel Canyon revival. Yet as we noted upon the release of the title track, Mila’s cutting lyrics about struggling to adapt are largely what set this particular set of songs apart from those by her contemporaries.
With the record set to land this Friday via New West, Mila is teasing the release with a “Neighborhoods” performance set in “a very cute little courtyard” in the center of her hometown of Amsterdam. Along with the early album single “Like Only Lovers Could,” Mila and her backing band also strum through the unreleased mid-album cut “I Wasn’t Gonna.” Check out their performance of both tracks below, and pre-order Chameleon here.
