Mass destruction seems to follow Dwayne Johnson wherever he goes. Just this year alone, the former wrestling champion has braved the fast roads of Furious 7 and the catastrophic tremors of the San Andreas fault line. Now a whole new set of city blocks await obliteration in the upcoming film adaptation of the classic ’80s arcade game Rampage, which will star The Rock himself.
In the 1986 game, players act as one of three super-ripped, insatiably hostile giants (sound familiar?) who travel the US systematically destroying cities one building at a time. There’s no casting information yet, and though it’s probably safe to assume that Johnson will either play the role of a military general or a hapless everyman hero, we’ve got our fingers crossed that the as-yet unnamed director will have, um, bigger plans.
Screenwriter Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) will join New Line and producer Beau Flynn (who previously collaborated on San Andreas) for the project, which is slated to start filming in the summer of 2016.
