Earlier this month, we caught up with Blair Howerton of Why Bonnie to discuss how revisiting indie-rock faves from her youth helped shape the project’s second full-length, Wish on the Bone. And while the playlist she built for us is largely comprised of the stadium-filling dream pop of Mazzy Star and Silversun Pickups (not to mention the even-bigger-stadium-filling country-pop of Brooks & Dunn), she explores a much different facet of the new batch of songs with her FLOOD Session performance of “I Took the Shot.”

The one-song acoustic set further minimizes the minimal art-pop of the album closer, as Howerton can be seen softly strumming the tune while preoccupied with another endeavor: building a mouth-watering salad from fresh ingredients. “We filmed this at [Why Bonnie bassist] Chance’s apartment,” she shares. “His tomatoes were ripe, and I had some mozzarella at home, so we decided to make a caprese salad. Just a simple summer dish to eat while we sweat in the New York heat.”

Beat the heat with the video below.
